Week 3 recap

This is a summary of what the yarn ninjas did and when they did it during the third week.

Week 3 of Group Project

Monday, March 15 - class. Looked around briefly and figured out things to yarn bomb. Planned out meetings. Came up with mascots - sock monkeys1 We are each different colors and types of monkeys. This will be incorporated later.

Tuesday, March 16 - regular meeting. Courtney could not make it but Lindsay, Holly, and DaeHee did. Discussed the idea of coming up with poster ideas (we will all come up with one idea each, four total, and put them around the school later) and started a list of things we will yarn bomb, who will yarn bomb what, documented measurements, etc. Discussed midweek post and came up with the idea of sock monkeys as representation. Holly learned how to crochet.

Friday, March 19 - regular online meeting. DaeHee had a meeting with his adviser so he could not make it. Lindsay, Courtney, and Holly talked about how our knitting was coming, formalized plans a bit more, and discussed advertising. Lindsay had the idea of making mini comics about yarn ninjas and putting them around the school in bathrooms and whatnot. We are also each designing a poster that we will be putting up around the school this week as foreshadowing. "The yarn ninjas are coming..." We will have our designs on Monday, and if we have time in class, we will print them out in class. If not, we will print them out on Tuesday during our regular group meeting. We also discussed that we need a lot more pictures to have something to show for our process.

Summary: Now that we have the basics down, things are progressing a lot quicker. We've started to actually start on the things we are yarn bombing, which is pretty exciting. This was the first week of regular meetings, and there were some problems (some people couldn't make it, some could...) but hopefully things will be smoothed out later.

This is a summary of what the yarn ninjas did and when they did it during week 2.

Week 2 of Group Project

Monday, March 8 - Holly is sick. Lindsay, Courtney, and DaeHee met up before class, learned how to crochet, and more knitting basics. Then in class, talked about changing the concept to the yarn ninjas and doing yarn bombing instead of the scarf tree.

Wednesday, March 10 - try to plan a last-minute online meeting to write the manifesto. Does not work and Lindsay writes the manifesto.

Friday, March 12 - get together for an online meeting. DaeHee couldn't make it as he had another group project. Discussed jobs that we would all do in the future as well as a timeline for the future. Elaborated on our concept and planned in more detail where we would be yarn bombing. Decided to schedule regular meetings Tuesdays at 6 to knit together and to actually do things, as well as online meetings on Friday to talk about any issues that we are having, logistical stuff, etc.

Summary: we changed our concept to yarn bombing, and started to get that idea figured out more. The knitting foundation was solidified, as we all know how to knit now. We are now working out the specifics. We are trying to get a routine down. We figure meetings will be easier if we automatically know that we have meetings at a certain time. We also started to consider the advantages of online meetings.

This is a summary of what the yarn ninjas did and when they did it during their first week.

Week 1 of Group Project

Monday, March 1 – assigned group project. Lindsay, Courtney, DaeHee, and Holly formed a group based on a mutual interest in “actually doing something”. Discussed interests and decided we would all like to learn how to knit. Lindsay volunteered to teach, since she was the only one who knew. The tentative plan is to knit a bunch of scarves and cover a tree in them.

Thursday, March 4 – meeting was scheduled to happen at 6pm, but fell through due to scheduling conflicts.

Friday, March 5 – Lindsay, Courtney, and Holly meet up and Lindsay teaches Holly and Courtney how to knit. Holly and Courtney have difficulties at first with slip knots and the beginning stitches, but are slowly learning how to knit.

Summary: We have a vague idea of what we want to do for our project, which is certainly a starting point. We've also started on the foundation, which is making sure everyone knows how to knit. Courtney and Holly have a general idea, Lindsay is a pro, and DaeHee still needs to learn.
